Shapes of Fashion

Can one wear a sculpture? This exhibition explores the borderland between fashion design and art. Here, some 50 unique works by 12 Nordic couturiers – all of whom manage to push the limits of what a garment can express – are displayed.

The selected works show the exhibitors’ varying approaches to body and wearability, as well as their individual artistic working methods. Come and encounter shimmering fairytale shapes, wearable sculptures, and dramatic dance outfits in which creativity is given free rein. The handmade works are creased, knitted, felted, laser-cut, painted, and painstakingly hand-sewn in fabric, paper, leather, yarn, sequins, feathers, and pearls. With this exhibition, the Textile Museum of Sweden hopes to challenge ingrained opinions regarding what a garment can be, and offer a journey through the limitless landscape of imagination.

The exhibitors are Bea Szenfeld, Helena Hörstedt, Sandra Backlund, Martin Bergström, Pia Wallén, WILJHA (Carolina Rönnberg), Astrid Olsson/Lee Cotter, Augusta Chavarria Persson, Henrik Vibskov, Nikoline Liv Andersen, Ann-Sofie Madsen, Tonje Plur, and Elina Määttinen.
